NAMM 2017: PRS J-MOD 100 John Mayer Signature Guitar Amplifer
As NAMM 2017 finally gets into full flow, the rumours around a John Mayer, PRS collaboration can finally be laid to rest, as PRS announce the gorgeous and beautifully simple PRS J-MOD 100 John Mayer signature amplifier. A single channel 100w beast, designed to John Mayer's specifications.
Simplicity is the name of the game with this amplifier; a single channel 100w beast loaded with 4 x 12AX7 in the preamp and 4 x 6L6 in the power amp section, this monster is capable of the smoothest cleans, buckets of headroom, but partnered with an intelligent gain stage to allow for full all american sounding drive.
The J-MOD is both single channel and without an on board reverb, but the FX loop allows players to add their own studio reverb of choice. Hand wired by the PRS team in Maryland, the J-MOD 100 is built to stand the test of time, and crafted to minimise breaks via the genius addition of five circuit boards. Breaking this down it basically means that each individual part of the circuit has its own board which move slightly with the amp to reduce wire breakages. Packed with a Cinemag output transformer as well as high-end capacitors in the preamp section the amp is full of rich harmonics and truly vintage tones.
